I worked at the local movie theatre in Jasper and watched “Speed” 30 times.

I was obsessed with the actress that played “Vada” in the film “My Girl”. Who were some of your favorite actors and/or television shows growing up? When people ask if I ever had a backup plan or if there is something else, I’d rather do, I honestly don’t. It’s honestly something I’ve never questioned, it’s like an invisible path I’ve never wavered from, just always faithfully putting one foot in front of the other. 9 asking what I wanted to do when I grew up, and I said “I want to be an actor, doesn’t everyone?” And she laughed and curtly said “NO! I want to be an occupational therapist.” And to this day she is an Occupational Therapist just outside of Calgary and I’m still playing make-believe. My friends would begrudgingly play Star Wars and Barbies with me, and my family would put up with hours of skits and fashion shows I would put together. W-O-W! What did the small mountain girl see in her future when she was growing up before she embarked on her journey of self-discovery? Did you always want to be an actress or did you dream of a different future?Įver since I can remember I loved storytelling and playing make-believe. I was lucky to begin working in film and television right away. From there I spun back to reality and moved to Vancouver to pursue acting.

I had no idea what to do at this point so I traveled to Thailand, learned to scuba dive, went to a Buddhist retreat, went to the Full Moon Parties, met a boy, cut all my hair off, went on jungle treks, the usual ‘I need to find myself’ journey at that age. It was quaint and nestled by the ocean and a really good landing pad for me at that age. 4 years later I somehow managed to fake my way through the theatre program and graduated with a BFA. The University of Victoria accepted me as a theatre major with zero experience, and I remember the deciding factor was I liked the way it looked on the pamphlet! Oh, to be 17 again. When I graduated, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but was always curious about acting. I loved playing hockey and swimming in the lakes and was a member of every club at school. Jasper is a town of only 4500 people, so I was really close with the small group of people I grew up with. I’m a small-town mountain girl, born and raised in Jasper National Park. Hi Erin! Thanks so much for the interview! Please share with us a little bit about your background. And she plays “Anna Benoit” on ABC’s A Million Little Things which also streams on Hulu.
